Well...what a fantastic way to finally close our summer Junior cricket season for 2018 here at Wythenshawe Cricket Club, Northenden, with our hotly contested Family Cricket Match, BBQ, Cricket themed raffle and Junior Awards. Blessed with brilliant weather, the sun shining until after the match, kindly waiting for everyone to be in the clubhouse for the awards before the rain came bucketing down ~ bonus!! It's always great to see our juniors, All Stars & their Mums, Dads, sisters and brothers, all joining in and having a fun time, lasting memories really are made on days like this. Team One, made up of family pairs and playing some clever cricket, set a target of 169 after each pair had batted, some great bowling and fielding from Team 2 ~ great work! 2nd innings and the chase was well and truly on, as Team 2 came out to bat, all pairs giving it everything they had, excellent fielding and bowling from Team 1, made it tough going at times, but as the last pair came in to bat, requiring 11 runs off 8 balls, it eventually all came down to the very last ball, 4 to win, 3 to draw!! The ball was hit hard and went flying to the boundary, looking like a dead cert 4...but some skillful fielding saw the ball picked up just before the flag and the fielder sent it rocketing in to prevent the 4 runs, the last pair scoring 3 runs!!.....a TIE!!! 169 each! To be honest, a fair ending to a fair match, so lovely to see all the children supporting each other and best of all, showing their parents how to play cricket ;) BBQ and food inside the clubhouse followed before everyone took their seats for the much anticipated junior awards: Wythenshawe CC Caps presented to our "All Stars" cricketers who will be graduating into fully fledged Juniors next season. A fabulous day, sealed with the drawing of the ever popular Cricket themed raffle, with 3 wheeled cricket holdalls, 3 cricket bats, 4 pairs of batting gloves, keepers gloves and batting pads going to some very lucky juniors :) Well done to all the winners, participants and everyone who have not only supported us on the day but have shown your support to all our coaches, Mike Dean, Craig McCoy and Ian Hilton, Fred our Groundsman who keeps the ground looking so fabulous all season and myself over this season, we're looking forward to next season already!!
