A spirited, determined whole team performance from our Willows U15s Girls tonight, pulling off a great 1st win in the Cheshire Women’s Hardball League tonight here at Longley Lane vs Langley CC U15s Girls
LCC batting first, playing pairs cricket rules, scored 232 (starting at 200) in their allotted 16 overs.
(Scorecard isn’t yet available online for individual stats)
Willows were super focused, bowling and fielding kept tight, limiting runs & maintaining pressure on the opposition’s batters.
Willows in reply, set off confidently, girls batting in pairs (4 overs a pair) making good steady progress in chasing the target set.
A close game throughout, of course pairs cricket has its unexpected twists & turns, especially when you lose runs for wickets lost, our girls however pushed on right to the last pair, where Daisy & Hannah finished the game in swashbuckling fashion, an enormous six from Capt Hannah pretty much sealed the deal, Willows finished on 250/6 off 16 overs and ensured the girls got their 1st victory in women’s hardball cricket.
Some great cricket played by all girls from both teams, great to realise that most players started out as All Stars Cricketers just a few seasons ago!
Congratulations Wythenshawe U15s Girls, hard luck to Langley CC, thanks for coming over to Longley Lane, Northenden on a bright sunny evening just perfect for cricket.
Thanks to all parents for their support from Wythenshawe & Langley, to Tahir for sharing umpiring duties & Mark for offering to score, last but not least well done coach Jeannie Platt for her dedication in developing our girls & women’s cricket, the hard work is definitely starting to pay off.
