Marvellous Monday of cricket for Wythenshawe CC Jnr & Youth teams tonight, with 2 great wins in the heat home & away.
At home U15s welcomed Stretford CC to Longley Lane,
WCC won the toss & elected to bowl, Tom Curtis getting off to a great start with a wicket, caught by Capt Morgan Platt off the 4th ball of the match, Tom taking his 2nd wicket just 2 overs later, caught Sonny Ash. Stretford’s A.Imtiaz settled things down for a few overs, becoming their highest scorer on 26 runs, bowled James Gutteridge, caught Tom Curtis. Wythenshawe’s fielding was the best we’d seen so far this season, 2 runouts coming for wicket keeper Tom Fieldhouse & some excellent reflex catches.
Jake Charlton with an inspired bowling spell, taking 3 wickets in the 18th over, just then leaving Sonny Ash to nab the last wicket bowling Stretford all out 104 in the last over.
Wythenshawe requiring 105 to win, replicated Stretford’s start, also losing a wicket in the opening over.
Heetain Arora stepped up, partnering Tom Fieldhouse, reply now steadied with Heetain going on to score 43* retired not out, leaving the field to much deserved respect & applause.
Seth Caldwell, showed great compose as he pretty much continued where Heetain left off, scoring 22 runs in just 19 balls, partnered for the last few overs with Capt Morgan Platt, Seth ripping a four to close the innings & seal a much welcome win, Wythenshawe 106/5 off 18.1, winning by 5 wickets.
Well done U15s & coach Sam Jones, a real boost for the boys & in front of a very receptive crowd.
A great game to watch, Stretford’s boys all a credit to their club, thanks for coming over to Longley Lane.
Thanks Sonny’s Grandma Irene Fergie (our special guest visiting scorer)
