Touch and go whether we’d actually get the game on this Sunday morning for our U11s v Ashley, luckily the rain kept off (apart from a couple of breaks for the odd shower!) & it was game on!
Wythenshawe batting first, stumbled through the opening overs, caught out by some decent bowling from Ashley’s bowlers, Freddie Ramsbottom working hard for his 7 runs, which settled the score down, then partnered with Zayn Jan, Zayn aged 8, the youngest on the pitch today put in a fantastic batting performance scoring 23 runs, just 2 short of retiring, an emphatic round of applause from both sets of supporters as he came off after being run out.
Wythenshawe finished on 73/10, Ashley required 74 to win.
After another rain break, play resumed, Ashley’s opening batters set about chasing down the target set.
Steady batting from Ashley’s openers, gave Wythenshawe some quandaries in getting wickets, a breakthrough clean bowled wicket from George Ewing, offered some hope, Wythenshawe’s boys & girls rallied round and after some consistent fielding and another 2 wickets from Jamie Sullivan, brought the game back in contention, runs slowed down but Ashley eventually sealed the win in the 16th over scoring 74/3, winning by 5 wickets.
Two very fairly matched teams, both in development and enjoying a fair game of cricket.
Well played Ashley on the win, keep up the hard work Wythenshawe U11s, time to work on where to improve at junior training with coach Patel, thank you Matt for scoring and to all parents for the usual encouragement and support.
