A fantastic 6 wicket quarter final victory for Wythenshawe Lions here at Longley Lane vs Uppermill Uproar tonight, taking us to our 2nd GMCL20 semi final & through to finals day in back to back seasons!!
The evening kicked off with some of our Class of ‘22 All Stars cricketers performing the official Guard of Honour in welcoming both teams onto the pitch, thanks All Stars you were all brilliant!
We had a real T20 Blast atmosphere too with music & live match scores from DJ Dave ? & BBQ fired up & proving a big hit run by Chairman Mike & Niamh.
Uppermill Uproar batting first, fulfilled their 20 overs finishing on 129/9, Matt Taylor our leading wicket taker with 3 wickets (4o-0m-19r-3w) sterling wicket keeping display from Luke Hibbert with 2 stumpings, great catches from Rob Jones, Jason Warner & Byron McGuigan ensured Wythenshawe left the field upbeat & ready to challenge the visitors for the win.
Wythenshawe Lions in reply set out to give the large crowd down at Longley Lane something to cheer about, with another fine performance from Matt Taylor 55 not out & Paul Burrell 32, Lions reached the required target in 18.5 overs, a tight ending to a great match, as Uppermill bowled & fielded well, taking the game right to the 2nd to last over, finally Lions getting over the line & reached the semi finals scoring 130/4 ~ winning by 6 wickets.
A totally entertaining & exciting match both teams cheered on by a good crowd of local and travelling supporters, thank you Uppermill for a great close game & to everyone for the fantastic support, especially President Ray Warburton for sponsoring the match ball.
Finals day here we come!! Again!!
Come on Wythenshawe!!!
